Owner/Operator Meagan Haley (Pringle) has always let her mercurial Gemini spirit guide her, and - through multiple decades of life, career changes and new starts - nature has been a consistent passion and provided a source of belonging for her. 

As a child, Meagan wanted to be a veterinarian. The fascination started early with helping her mother rehabilitate injured & orphaned baby squirrel kits. Her father would take her and her brother to Toronto city parks regularly, in all seasons. He would often enthusiastically point at different shrubs, flowers, birds or bugs and jokingly demand an identification before teaching them everything he knew on the subject. Later growing into a stuck and frustrated adult, Meagan had multiple "careers" - desk jobs, endless retail work, medical aesthetician, a decade as a freelance model, worked in the film industry for years. Yet, none of those flames have burned as bright as the one for flora and fauna that her parents instilled, and additionally for the advocacy and education of others on their own local ecosystems.

 

 

Our practices as a company surround our ethics, and all apothecary goods for sale are foraged with knowledge, reverence and respect for the Honorable Harvest. We pride ourselves on constantly learning, viewing the Earth and the Universe as our teachers, always yearning to be a good student in their eyes. 

Botanicals in the shop are all locally sourced and wildforaged in urban or rural environments in a way that supports the future growth of the plant and/or benefits the surrounding ecosystem - for example, pulling invasive species like Garlic Mustard. For this reason, we do not recommend using any of our products internally, as we cannot guarantee they have not been in contact with pesticides or other contaminants that may be harmful to your health. Our animal bones are also wildsourced from natural death bone piles found in urban areas, such as railroad tracks, or purchased directly from Indigenous retailers who have hunted and processed them using traditional Anishinaabe methods. Wildsourced bones go through months of processing (maceration, degreasing, whitening, drying) before they can be worked with safely. Our insects are either a) wild caught natural death specimens, b) wild caught and ethically euthanized by a slow freezing process, or c) hand reared and allowed a natural death.
